1-to-1 Peer Support
A Companion on Your Road to Recovery
1-to-1 Peer Support means getting practical and emotional support from someone who has faced the same mental health challenges you do.
What is 1-to-1 Peer Support?
With 1-to-1 Peer Support, you can regularly meet with someone who understands what you’re going through for up to a year. Although this person has received special training, they’re different from most other mental health workers. They’ve lived through many of the same things you’ve lived through and truly understand how challenging it is to build a healthy life. That means they can walk alongside you on your road to mental health recovery as a friend.
Your Peer Support worker believes in your recovery because they’ve made progress in their own life. They can help you to find and hold onto a sense of hope.
Who is it for?
1-to-1 Peer Support is for anyone who is connected to Fraser Health Authority – Mental Health and Substance Use and is living with mental health challenges and looking for support to recover their health and wellness. This service requires a referral from Fraser Health.
What to expect
This Peer Support worker can work with you to set and meet personal goals and find helpful resources in your community. - Getting around the community more easily by learning bus routes
- Visiting the clubhouse where you can spend time with other people in recovery
- Activities that lower your anxiety
- Using the library
- Starting a volunteer job
- Making better friends
- Becoming more active
- Fun things to do in your community
